2D-3D-2D

Image - Football

Title: “2D-3D-2D”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil

This is known as a Greek Football (soccer for Americans). Anyway, it’s made by weaving strips of construction paper.

This painting was completed with only red, white, blue and black colors.

I was exploring the concept of taking something two dimensional (paper) and making a three dimensional form with it (the football) and then painting on a two dimensional surface (gessoed board) so it looks three dimensional. It sounds circuitous but interesting none the less.

I’ve done this before with origami cranes, but this shape warrants a little more exploration.

This painting is sold
