Spectral Signature

Title: “Spectral Signature”
Dimensions: 10″x8″
Medium: Oil

This is not your typical still life. I wanted to reach beyond the classic, sometimes stale painting of a still life and give a fresh modern approach to it. Are you wondering what those purple/pink things are on the sides? Are you wondering what’s in the glass container? Do you know what a “spectral signature” is?

I could have just painted the glass container with the reflections and without the color sources, but I wanted to give a little visual explanation of where these electric colors were coming from. Sometimes you give data and sometimes you hold back. Just looking at the painting, you may not know what it’s all about. I’ve had a few questions about what those things are on the side, but hey, if it causes you to think a little, that’s a good thing.

I’m interested in your comments.
