Fishing with a Friend

Fishing with a Friend

Title: “Fishing with a Friend”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil

I was at a friends house in Blowing Rock, NC and from their porch you can see the mountains and a lovely pond stocked with trout and cat fish. It’s a great little hole for fishing.

They live on a street called “Artist’s Alley”, its just south of Blowing Rock on Highway 221. We we’ll be up there for an art show on Saturday, November 24 from 10:00 am to 6:00pm. Several artists will have their studios open to the public and will be demonstrating their skills. We should have a variety of 2D and 3D artwork including painting, weaving, pottery, and much more!

Please mark your calendar and stop by for some fun. Click here for a map.

Overlooking the Seine

Overlooking the Seine

Title: “Overlooking the Seine”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil

Since I’ve been out of my home studio and in temporary quarters, I’ve yet to manage a good place to set up still lifes and get the lighting just so. In the mean time I’ve been pouring through photos for reference material in my paintings. This was from just a few months ago on a trip to Paris, we were taking a boat ride down the Seine, and this was a bridge just outside the Louvre.

Lady in Cafe

Lady in Cafe

Title: “Lady in Cafe I”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil

Hi. I haven’t written in a bit or painted for that matter. Not that I didn’t want to, but we had a fire in our house and it has put a major damper (no pun intended) on my productivity. The good news is, no one was hurt, and in the grand scheme of things that is what’s important. We have only lost a few things and of course some time. We had to evacuate and I now have a place set up where I can paint again.

The drama of that evening is gone, and the initial shock has faded, but not the memory of the fire fighters and volunteers who showed up to put out the fire. They are the ones you know are there, but don’t really come to the forefront of your mind until you need them. Thanks to all the members of the Lake Norman, Mooresville, Mount Mourne, and Statesville fire and rescue teams that dropped whatever they were doing, left their family and friends to risk their own well being for a stranger in need. That’s amazing. Thanks.

Small Bags

Bags

Title: “Handle with Care”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil

I enjoyed the way these handles were crossed over each other and leaning a bit. This painting is 6″x6″, but I had such fun with all the gentle wrinkles in the paper bags that I decided to do a larger one, with a third bag. You’ll see it appearing within the next month.

I’m finding it a bit difficult to manage everything I have on my plate at the moment. There are so many things an artist has to do. It’s really a one man deal. You have to be everything – the CEO, CFO, COO, CIO, Head of Marketing/Customer Service, Chief Cook and Bottle Washer, all while trying to spark those creative juices and actually produce some art. Are you out of breath? I am.

Well the holiday season is about to embark on us and things should let up a little…..not!

Thanks for looking at my work.

I liked the juxtaposition of these two ladies. One turns away while the other is engaged in the moment. Both in black and white, but completely different patterns.

Blue Ridge Mountains – I

Blue Ridge Mountains - I

Title: “Blue Ridge Mountains – I ”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil

If you have never been to North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, you are really missing something. If you have been there you know the beauty all around you. Technically it is a mountain chain in the eastern United States and is the eastern part of the Appalachian Mountains, and runs from Georgia all the way to Pennsylvania.

Side Note: That is something I’ve always wanted to do – hike the Appalachian Trail but I’ll save those comments for another day.

The Blue ridge gets it’s name from the beautiful blue hues you see as you look over the mountain chain. Hopefully I’ll be back this fall and will be able to soak up the color as the leaves change.

Waiter

Waiter

Title: “Waiter”
Dimensions: 6″x6″
Medium: Oil

You will see me switch from time to time, from people to things. I like them both. I loved the way the light was shining in the windows of this restaurant, and then the light from the waiters stand was very warm and conveyed a yellow tone to his hand and shirt.

Saffron

Title: “Saffron”

Saffron, a spindly reddish twisted needle, is one of the worlds most expensive spices. It is actually the stigmas of the crocus flower, and is prized for its taste and the unique golden color it lends to dishes.
