Every spring the main street in our neighborhood comes alive with a spectacular show of cherry trees blossoming. I’m not saying it’s Washington DC, but it is very impressive. With this inspiration, I packed up my stuff and found a comfortable spot directly under one of the trees. I was able to see the trunk and look up into the sky at the umbrella of blossoms over me. The sun was peeking through the branches, I could smell the blossoms, and watch the frenzied bees gather their nectar. I felt different about my painting – as if I was drawing with the paints.

A little while later I recalled a series of Van Gogh paintings I saw while in Amsterdam. He did several trees, and orchards. I pulled a couple of images (below) for you to enjoy.

  1. Blossoming Almond Tree – my one of my favourites, saw it a couple of weeks ago in amsterdam, see it in the flesh you get a real sence of depth you can imagine the artis lying on there back looking up at the sky through the blosom – wounderful
