First Light #1

Artist: LC Neill
Title: “First Light #1″
Medium: Oil on Canvas
Dimensions: 18″x24″

This painting is the first of a new series I am doing called “First Light”.

Ever since we have lived on Lake Norman, I’ve been getting up with the sunrise. Our house opens to the lake facing East, so it’s only natural that the sun wakes me up. We overlook a large cove with satellite islands scattered around. One small island is directly in front of us, which I’ve been studying for some time now and may have some paintings on later.

Lately I’ve been getting up before the sun to take my kayak out when light is just about to break. I paddle into the cove to watch the sun come up. It’s spectacular, peaceful and ever evolving. Each morning holds a surprise of unbelievable colors and motion. Sometimes the colors are muted, subtle and moody, other times it’s bold, striking and seemingly surreal. I’ll be writing more about this, but I wanted to give you a sneak peek at one of the paintings I’ve been working on. I hope you enjoy!

If you would like to see more of these, I’ll be introducing the “First Light” series at my Open Studio Friday October 15, and Saturday October 16. For a complete schedule of events this fall click here. To find out more about this painting, please send me an email.

This is a brilliant piece. You have captured not only the morning light but also the softness and tranquility of the lake in the early morn…
