I love the lake! It’s so special to be out there with friends. The evening I took reference pictures for this painting we were with John, Cindy, Stella and Marley. I happened to forget my point and shoot camera, but I had my phone with me so I took a few shots. With the motion of the boat and my little phone; at best, I was hoping for a blurry image that may have shown general shapes and colors….my expectations were very low. The photos were good enough to use, but the amazing thing about the new phone is (drum roll), it has location services on it – which means it knows exactly where I was when the reference photos were taken. I’m a bit of a “Techie” (that’s just a pleasant way to say “Geek”) and get a thrill from little things like this, so I thought maybe you would also be interested in where I was! I’ve done a lot of sunrises and sunsets but this one is a riot of color. A few days ago, I was working in my studio before the sun came up. I looked up from my easel and saw these incredible colors, so I grabbed my camera and went outside to shoot a few pics. Autumn is definitely in the air. For some reason we get the best dusk and dawn when it’s colder out. It may have to do with the humidity and atmospheric distortions?? It was a bit nippy and I had lots to do back in the studio, but I had a chance to upload one of the images to Facebook from my phone. The image was blurry (probably from shivering) but I was so jazzed by it, I decided to paint it right away. It’s almost dry now, so I thought I would share with you.

This Lily painting is part of a series I am creating using metal leaf. It’s beautiful, vibrant and seems to glow. It is time consuming because there are multiple layers of paint and gold leaf, but I am thoroughly enjoying the process and achieving results with depth and interest.

There’s something magical about a bonsai tree. I am intrigued by the way their trunks and branches twist and turn in a beautiful way. Cultivating a bonsai is a work of art in it’s own right.

I saw this lady strolling around in a farmers market. Her shirt, hat, the apples and her little toe nails (if you would like a detailed image, please let me know) were all bright red.
